Activities & Shabbat

Activities

Campers return each summer to Na’aleh because they have fun!  Swimming, arts and crafts, sports, special interest groups are offered each day. Evening programs include summertime favorites like Capture the Flag, Saturday night bonfires, costume parties, game show nights, and other innovative activities led by our creative staff. Na’aleh provides many opportunities for campers to develop and display their creative, dramatic and musical talents, and even the shyest campers may find themselves comfortable going on stage to participate in a skit or comedy routine.

Learning

Learning is woven into the fabric of the camp experience. Imaginative activities and informal discussions about a variety of topics—Jewish history, social justice, our environment, Zionism, and Israel—foster a positive understanding of our heritage and humanitarian values. By substituting Hebrew words for everyday terms, campers pick up a long list of Hebrew vocabulary without ever entering a classroom.

Shabbat

Shabbat is everybody’s favorite time of the week. Friday afternoon, campers start by cleaning and decorating their cabins, gathering flowers for the Shabbat dinner table, and preparing for the Friday night play. A traditional Shabbat dinner is then followed by singing and Israeli folk dancing. On Saturday, campers can sleep late, enjoy a special breakfast, and take part in a quieter, more relaxed schedule of activities. Shabbat ends with a Havdalah service under the stars and the much anticipated weekly campfire where campers get to entertain one another with skits and special presentations.
