What is typical day like?
Days at Na’aleh are busy from morning to night. You’ll participate in fun, educational (yes, sometimes they go together!) activities with your madrichim (counselors) and fellow campers, play sports, eat great food, and sometimes just hang out. What is the food like?
Actually the food is quite good. We've even had campers say they come to camp because of the food! Na’aleh serves meals family style (sitting around a table with your friends). Each day brings something different. Breakfast is pretty much what you get at home: eggs, hot and cold cereals, milk (including lactose-free and soy alternatives), fresh fruit, and yogurt. On Saturday mornings, you get to sleep in late and wake up to a breakfast with donuts, too. Lunch and dinner vary day to day and will always include fresh salad. A selection of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free alternatives are always available. The kitchen staff is friendly and can accommodate special dietary needs. Na’aleh has a fully kosher kitchen and only serves kosher foods. Snacks are available throughout the day, but most campers agree that their favorite is when we serve ice cream sandwiches on Saturday night. Back to Top
Will I get to see my friends in the other age groups?
Absolutely! Na’aleh creates an intimate community. All our campers eat meals together, swim together in the afternoon, and come together special evening programs or trips or hikes. During the day you'll have more than enough free-time periods to read a book, listen to music, or just hang out with your friends Back to Top
Do I have to swim?
You’ll want to! We have a beautiful, Olympic-sized swimming pool. Every afternoon free swim is offered – and on those hot summer days you’ll want to cool down. All campers through Chotrim (6th grade) have mandatory instructional swim so expect to go home a better swimmer than before! Back to Top
Are the madrichim (counselors) nice?
Yes! Many of our counselors grew up at Na’aleh, so they understand what you will need from them during the summer. They come back each summer to make sure that you have fun and love Na’aleh just like they did! Back to Top
What are the tzrifim (cabins) like?
All of our cabins have electricity and bathrooms. Each camper gets a cubby for his or her belongings, and you can use your trunk to store anything else. Your counselors will sleep in the cabin with you, most likely in a separate area within the cabin. Back to Top
My birthday is in the summer. What happens at camp?
Lucky you! A Na’aleh birthday celebration is something special… and memorable. We do celebrate birthdays at camp, both with your age group and the whole camp, too, so just think of it as one of the biggest parties you’re likely to ever have! Back to Top
Can I bring my cell phone/i-pod/video games?
We don’t think bringing handheld electronic devices is a good idea. First, camp is a time to get away from all that. Second, they can get lost easily. Cell phones are not allowed at all, so if you bring one, we’ll hold on to it and keep it safe until your last day of camp. (You might want to put a message on it with an address so friends and family can reach you by mail.) Portable music devices like iPods and MP3 players are not prohibited. But, if brought, they must be kept in the bunks and used only during rest times and in bed. Back to Top
Can I call, write, or email my family or friends?
We strongly recommend that you give the camp’s mailing address to friends and family so you can get letters from them. Receiving regular mail, as retro as that may seem, is actually a big deal at camp. Oh, and by the way, you’ll get time to write your family and friends, too. Calling friends or family, except in cases of emergency, is not allowed. You can receive email at camp (it distributed with the regular mail). But you will not be able to send emails, so bring pens and stationery. Back to Top
Do I get to go on any trips?
Yes, each session there will be a “Kupah trip” – a fun out-of-camp trip for the whole camp. It’s always a surprise – and it’s always fun! Also, each age group will go on an overnight tiyul (hike) once in the summer. It’s a great way to bond as a group and to get some good outdoor experience. Back to Top
