Scholarship Opportunities
There are many scholarship opportunites available to parents through their federations and foundations devoted to enabling parents to give their children a Jewish summer camp experience. In particular we recommend Amy Adina Schulman Memorial Fund. We also encourage prospective parents to visit www.onehappycamper.org, which offers scholarships for Camp Na'aleh. New York
The, Summer/Israel Scholarship Committee, sponsored by the United Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York, offers scholarships to Northeastern New York residents only. The committee awards on average 35 scholarships in amounts per scholarship of $200-$1,250. There is no first-time camper program. To apply, complete application by March 1. Jewish Summer Camp Experience, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County (New York) offers scholarships to Orange County residents for any camp. Roughly 10 scholarships awarding an average $600 are given out each year, with $100 merit scholarship for first-time camper programs. To apply, complete the application online or call. Submit financials from the past two years if asking for more than $100. Three (3) hours of community service in Orange County is also required. The application deadline is March 31. Connecticut
The Federation of Danbury Scholars, sponsored by Jewish Federation of Greater Danbury, Inc., provides 10-12 scholarships per year to residents of the greater Danbury area for any applicable camp. The Ben and Joan Zinbarg -Jewish Family Service Camp Scholarship Fund was created to assist families who cannot otherwise afford to send their children to a Jewish overnight or day camp. It is open to Jewish youngsters living in the Greater Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Westport, Weston, Wilton and Norwalk areas. To qualify, children must be entering first grade or higher in September. The amount paid to the camp is based on financial assessment of need, after any subsidies, discounts and other scholarships have been considered. The application process takes place from February through March each year, and all applications are kept strictly confidential. Applications may be obtained by calling Iris Morrison at 203-921-4161. Massachusetts
Harold Grinspoon Foundation Scholarships is available to residents of Western Massachusetts who are attending Jewish overnight camp for the first time (minimum one-week session; maximum all summer). On average, the Grinspoon Foundations awards 225 scholarships, and the average amount per scholarship ranges up to 50% of tuition for a maximum of $1,500 and $1,000 in subsequent summers. The number of scholarships awarded depends upon available funding, while the average amount per scholarship varies. There is no first-time camper program.
